From practice to the classroom
Olawunmi Opeyemi Obisesan, PhD, has spent more than 20 years across legal practice, legal academia, higher education leadership and access-to-justice work in Africa.
Her path has taken her from ADR work and private practice to roles as a university legal officer, a college officer and a law lecturer. Along the way, one question kept returning: why do so many capable law students graduate with strong theory and too little practice?
Faculties do valuable practical teaching. The difficulty is proving it, in the form a regulator expects, while running a full academic year.
Building clinics that work
She established five specialist law clinics at Redeemer's University, drafted a Law Clinic Handbook and coordinated moot court, client-counselling and advocacy competitions.
At Kampala International University, she established the Department of Clinical Legal Education and served as its founding head.
